WELCA Ministries
WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) is a function within the ELCA church at large. Every ELCA congregation’s charter includes a place for the organization of the women in the local church body.
Women are an active part of the leadership of the congregation, and serve in worship, music, education, and many other ministries. But WELCA provides women of all ages with added opportunities to be a part of the mission we carry out. At Our Savior’s WELCA operates in a variety of ways:
Bible study
- The Ruth Circle meets the 3rd Monday at 9 a.m at a variety of locations, many times out in the community. Contact the office for this month’s location and for more information
Quilting ministry
- Dorcas Sewing Circle: Meets every Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. to tie quilts. A few quilts are kept in West Salem for local needs; most quilts are shipped overseas by Lutheran World Relief and distributed where needed.
Norwegian Dinner
- The annual Lutefisk & Meatball Dinner & Bake Sale: Our Savior’s main fundraiser, held each year in November. It takes lots of “helping hands” – both women and men – to put on this event. This popular activity donates all the proceeds to ministries and programs that work to change lives, both locally and worldwide
Prayer Shawls
- A group of very dedicated ladies work together – and sometimes on their own at home – to craft prayer shawls for persons in need of prayer support. Shawls are lifted up by the group in prayer, and then blessed in worship before going (literally) around the world. Know someone who could use a shawl? Contact one of the pastors!
