Clifford Michelson Scholarship

Leif is awarded the Clifford Michelson Scholarship. You will know him by the sound of his trumpet that lifts our worship to a whole new level. But his service has reached far beyond the walls of Our Saviors. Leif volunteers his own time each summer to work at a camp for the visually impaired. He also serves alongside his mother as he serves at the Care and Share Food Pantry.

Leif’s scholarship presented OSLC with a wonderful gift this year. Each year the scholarship committee receives the applicants anonymously. They do not know which name is attached to which application. After deciding how to award the funds, the students are then paired to the specific fund that will fulfill their scholarship. This year presented an incredible story when we went to pair our scholarships with our students, because the name of one of the scholarship funds, came through in Leif’s faith statement. Leif and Doris Michelson are the prime example of how intergenerational relationships help form the faith for our youth. Leif and Doris have a relationship that has nothing to do with family, or a special circumstance that brought them together. They simply come together in faith and it has made Leif who he is today. Leif can regularly be found in Doris’s living room after school. They celebrate each other’s birthdays together. And Doris herself can be found at the end of the bleachers to watch Leif’s games and music events, even on the most bitterly cold nights. This relationship is completely their own. It didn’t come out of a program or an initiative put on by the staff. It happened through the work of the Spirit in Doris and Leif. We are proud to present Leif with the Clifford Michelson Scholarship. Congratulations Leif!
